I've been wanting to join Friday Flashback Photo for some time. With all that is going on in Haiti right now, I thought I'd post some pictures from a missions trip we took back in 1994.
My heart has just been broken for this nation. Please remember them in your prayers daily.
Our church went to work with a wonderful organization called New Missions. It is located right by the ocean in an area called the Leogane Plain, which is about 25 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince.
New Missions has 21 elementary schools, several churches, a medical clinic, a high school, a Bible college and a Missions Training Center.
As with any missions trip you go thinking you are going to bless others, and you come away feeling so humbled and blessed yourself by the entire experience.
We always gained so much more then we ever gave, and since that trip I've never stop praying, supporting and loving the wonderful Haitian people.
New missions received some major damage to several of their buildings. In many cases the destruction was beyond repair. Numerous buildings will need to be completely torn down and re-built. Temporary structures will need to be erected in the meantime.
Please pray about giving some support to help this nation that has been so devastated. You may have a favorite charity that is helping in the recovery efforts, but if not New Missions could really use your support at this time. No matter what, your prayers will make a major difference.
And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day. Isaiah 58:10

Susan, I'm so glad that you joined in this week. And how touching that your flashback has to do with Haiti. I can imagine how much more personal it is to you since you were there.

Oh Susan, I'm glad you shared your photos from Haiti. I too went on a mission trip there but earlier in about 1980. We traveled around crazy mountain roads on a wobbly bus to get to the Cape Hatian area. It is so sad to see the photos of the devastation. I join you in praying for the people.

That is the most appropriate flashback in the world - what an amazing thing you did for those people!! My heart breaks for them as well and I know they need so much right now ~ prayers, food, water, peace, each other! Thanks for sharing your trip with us ~ ♥

P.S. I've been only to one, in Tijuana, where the group helped in building houses.

I also kept thinking how quickly time flies. 1994 doesn't seem that long ago, yet I was thinking how long ago it really was! Joel was only 4!!! Jason was 15...and you were about Wendy's age! I then looked at links below of older posts and looked back at this one...=)

They for sure are in our prayers. Wow...the emotions you must be feeling having been there and knowing the people and the country. I feel such a great sense of sadness and I haven't even been there. Thank you for sharing these pictures with us.
ReplyDeleteI can not even begin to imagine the depths of the horror in Haiti right now. We are praying, and have made a financial contribution...not much, but we gave what we could.

hello Susan, your post is very timely indeed. I was reminded of other world's catastrophes before, something happened and people came to know God through that bad experience,
ReplyDelete---it could be that God is changing the hearts of the people in the country
---or the Lord wanted to remind us that there are people who needed help
---or we need to look up to heaven, and be reminded that we cannot do anything by our own strength except to trust in Him. We don't know... I don't know either, but God is gracious and compassionate, He will always be there for His children.
I'm happy to know that you were in a mission trip, we are doing the same here, and we wanted to do other M trips too in other countries God willing.
Oh.. very sad... Our church are praying for them...

I am definitely praying for those faces and the countless others affected by the earthquake. I can't even begin to imagine what they must be going through. I have not had the privelege of doing any missions outside of our borders, but my heart has been so affected by the devastation there, and the stories and photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. It is a beautiful thing to be called to be the hands and feet of Jesus. It is an honor to have blessings to share.
I pray that as people minister there, they will be amply supplied and the Lord will give them strength. I have read of the praise going up in the streets as God's people sing and I have read of the increasing stench of bodies in the street.
I pray God makes Himself known in amazing ways there through His ambassadors.
