I don't think anyone could ever forget those terrible images of the New Orleans' Superdome after the ravages of Hurricane Katrina five years ago.

It became the symbol of pain and suffering for the 30,000 refugee that fled to the dome as a shelter of last resort to escape the flood waters that overwhelmed the city.

Refurbished and alive once again, the Superdome is now a hub of delight in a city that still needs a daily dose of hope as it still struggles to recover from this disaster.

This past Sunday we witnessed a miracle in New Orleans as the Saints won the 2009 National Conference Championship, and a trip to the Super Bowl for the first time in their 43 year history.

Although the dome won't bring back jobs, homes, or the many lives that were lost in that horrible storm, it does brings joy and hope to the spirit of the city!

Go Saints - All the way to a Super Bowl victory!

Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?

She loves me, she loves me not…

WFWkids3

Oh my, this was just so funny! We took the grandkids out to the zoo yesterday. While Kristin was getting a stroller for the girls I decided to start taking pictures of Karli and Cole.  Well its not exactly your perfect Kodak moment, but it sure says a lot about how we all feel at times.

Now, Karli really does adore her younger brother, but like most of us girls she can get a little carried away with her emotions.  One thing is certain, she’s not shy about the way she feels.

But on a more serious note, one thing that grieves the heart of God is when we pretend to love outwardly in one way, but feel the opposite on the inside.  God truly looks at and judges the motives of our hearts.

May our love always be without hypocrisy.

Better Days in Haiti

I've been wanting to join Friday Flashback Photo for some time.  With all that is going on in Haiti right now, I thought I'd post some pictures from a missions trip  we took back in 1994.

My heart has just been broken for this nation.  Please remember them in your prayers daily.

Our church went to work with a wonderful organization called New Missions.  It is located right by the ocean in an area called the Leogane Plain, which is about 25 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince.

New Missions has 21 elementary schools, several churches, a medical clinic, a high school, a Bible college and a Missions Training Center.

As with any missions trip you go thinking you are going to bless others, and you come away feeling so humbled and blessed yourself by the entire experience.

We always gained so much more then we ever gave, and since that trip I've never stop praying, supporting and loving the wonderful Haitian people.

New missions received some major damage to several of their buildings.  In many cases the destruction was beyond repair.  Numerous buildings will need to be completely torn down and re-built. Temporary structures will need to be erected in the meantime.

NewMissionsInHaitiEarthquake

Please pray about giving some support to help this nation that has been so devastated.  You may have a favorite charity that is helping in the recovery efforts, but if not New Missions could really use your support at this time.  No matter what, your prayers will make a major difference.

And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day. Isaiah 58:10

Project Life Tuesday: Week One

I’m so excited to start this new project!  My husband blessed me with this  Cannon Rebel for Christmas!

canon-rebel-xs-camera

I’ve always wanted an SLR camera.  So now the fun begins!  I’m scheduled to take a basic digital camera class at the end of the month, I have so much to learn.

One of my wonderful neighbors told me about the Project Life Kit that she received and how she was going to do a photo journal for the year.  After talking with her I decided it was the perfect timing for me too.

I’ll be using ShutterCal  plus this meme to get it going.  I’m looking forward to sharing my pictures and viewing yours as well.  What a neat way to create a photo record of all the events of an entire year!

Thank you Jessica for making this available to us.  Looking forward to getting to know all of you out there.

I’m the mother of five sons, and now an excited proud Grammy of three beautiful little girls and one adorable baby boy!  I finally got my girls, and I’m having the best time of my life surrounded by my wonderful family.

January 3

This was taken New Years Day. My older sister Mary and her daughters came out to spend the day with us.  I always enjoy Mary's visit's.

January 4

Ok, this may look strange, but on this day I started my 21 day Daniel Fast.  Our church along with many others in the US are doing this fast to begin the year.  We’re believing for break-throughs with our family and the nation in 2010.

January 5

Winter came in a big way to Louisiana this past week!  We have been having our fire place going daily! I’m so thankful for a nice warm house.

January 6

My daughter-in-love came out to spend the day with us.  The school she teaches at was closed due to the freezing weather.  Yes, in Louisiana it doesn’t take much in the way of cold to shut us down.  What a wonderful excuse to see my grandbabies during the week!

I was using the sports setting on my new camera.  It was fun watching my grand-daughter playing on our trampoline the other day.

Here is my grandson Cole!     Oh isn’t he just adorable?  He reminds me so much of his dad.  It’s seems like yesterday my son was his age.  If you still have young children, please cherish each moment!

My neighbor took this picture for me.  This is Jane, my Russian daughter.  We first met Jane as a young teenager on a missions trip 17 years ago.  We’ve remained very close over  the years.  Jane is in the US now visiting her boyfriend’s family.  We spent 7 wonderful days together.  I miss her already~

The Words I would say…

then_sings_my_soul

(Please remember to mute my music player, thanks!)

Today I would like to devote this song to anyone who is going through a time of w-a-i-t-i-n-g.  I pray it blesses and encourages you!  God is faithful and He is true.  He has a plan.  He loves you.

Isaiah 40:31 “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.”

Be strong in the Lord
And never give up hope
You're gonna do great things
I already know God's got His hand on You
So don't live life in fear
Forgive and forget
But don't forget why you're here
Take your time and pray
These are the words I would say

While you are waiting…

wfw-2008sm

vision50

Obstacles can’t steal your dream without your permission.

Winston Churchill rallied blitzed, beleaguered Britain from the edge of defeat with these memorable words:

“Never give up! Never give up! Never, never, never give up!”

When you walk in faith and refuse to quit, God guarantees your obstacles won’t prevent your vision from being fulfilled.

Though they were enslaved, Israel received the strength to overcome Egypt’s efforts to break them. The story of their survival and success reads:

“The more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew” (Ex 1:12 NKJV).

Paul’s dream of evangelizing the world met roadblocks at every turn. Tightening his grip he declared,

“We are hard-pressed on all sides, but…never frustrated; we are puzzled, but never in despair. We are persecuted, but…never…deserted: we may be knocked down but we are never knocked out!” (2Co 4:8-9).

Joseph’s journey to the throne led him through betrayal, persecution and loneliness. His dream, still alive and unsurrendered, was put on hold for years.

Vindicated in the critics’ eyes, his dream at last realized, he recalls the amazing way in which God accomplished it.

“‘For,’ he said, ‘God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction’” (Ge 41:52 NAS).

He refused to surrender his dream – it’s what kept him alive. God made him fruitful, not by exempting him from affliction but by promoting him right there, “in the land of my affliction.”

Your obstacles can’t stop God; don’t let them stop you!  (By Rick Godwin)

A crazy question!

iow-NEW

“How we respond to difficulties will determine whether we are a winner or a whiner. One of Satan’s first temptations when our life appears to be on hold is to tempt us to live by feelings instead of faith.”
~ Michael Youssef

When I read today's quote by Michael Youssef the first thing that came to my mind was the story of lame man by the pool of Bethesda.  In the book of John chapter 5 we read:

poolbethesda

"Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a feast of the Jews. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?" "Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me." Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk." At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked."

Now, when I first read this story I thought…that is a strange question for Jesus to ask the crippled man.

“Do you want to get well?”

However, after reading it again, I soon realized that Jesus knew something about that man that we did not.

Many people, myself included, profess that they really want help and healing, yet are more comfortable being a whiner. It’s a lot easier to  make excuses complain than it is to rise up and do whatever it takes to change and become a winner.

So, the question really isn’t crazy at all, and it echoes down through the ages to each of us today, "Do you really want to get well?"

For some of us we are crippled by our past, our hurts, disappointments, physical limitations, and secret sins.  No matter what circumstances or situation you might find yourself in today: Jesus is asking,

  • Do you want to move on?

  • Do you want to overcome?

  • Do you want to be healed?

  • Do you want to be set-free?

  • Do you want to get well?"

To receive your healing you must first desire to be changed.  We must answer, "Yes Lord, I'm ready to take up my bed and walk!”

I want to be winner, do you?

Lord, we stand before you as weak, sick and sinful people who need your healing touch today.  We are not able to heal ourselves, but we know that with one touch of your hand we will be made whole. Thank you for your finished work on Calvary.  You are faithful, you are true, and you will do all that you have promised.  Forgive me for all the times I have resisted your call to me. Your grace is sufficient.  Amen
