This past weekend my husband and I took a little get a way trip to Vicksburg, Mississippi.

We wanted to visit the famous Civil War battlefield where Gen. Ulysses S. Grant captured the city after a six week siege.

Over 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers died in this battle.

The famous U.S.S Cairo was sunk in the battle and raised from the river 100 years later.

We learned some interesting facts in the Civil War Museum.

Ever wondered where this phrase came from?

Looks like you had a great time!
Know that you're always in my thoughts and prayers!
Psalms 27:7-9 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me. When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek. Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

Love the textures you used, especially on the old medicine bottle. You got some really great photos from your trip! My boys would probably like visiting here if we get the chance.

Back before children my husband and I used to spend our vacation time visiting Civil War battlefields. After Gettysburg our next trip was to be Vicksburg then I found out I was expecting our first (who wasn't supposed to be). We haven't been yet, but one day...
Thanks for sharing the super photos of the place.

Great photos and very interesting post. I'll have to share it with my granddaughter who just finished world history, since it touched on the Civil War as well. And what a sweet trip with your husband - wonderful family memories to cherish! Have a blessed week. :)

A great collection of shots, Susan. I always love learning the history of a place. I suppose I will not use bite the bullet loosely.

Beautiful! My husband visited Vicksburg about a year ago - he's a huge Civil war buff. Of course, he didn't take any pictures and I would love to see it myself now. Wonderful use of textures and processing.
