Our God Reigns!

(Verse 3 of the hymn, "This Is My Father’s World" by Maltbie D. Babcock)

What an exciting day in history! January 20, 2009, a day we will all look back to and remember. A day, if the Lord should tarry, our children's children will be learning about in their American History class. No matter who you may have voted for, it's time now to begin praying for our new President, his family, and all those in authority. We are truly facing uncertain days of unprecedented trouble. As a nation, we so desperately need for God’s hand to guide our leaders and give them wisdom.

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” ( I Tim.2-4)

“Father, today I pray for our newly elected president, Barack Obama, and for his family. Protect them and watch over them. Give him divine wisdom as he leads our nation, and surround him with wise and godly advisers. I pray that all of the evil forces that will try to manipulate and corrupt him will be bound. Thank you Lord for so abundantly blessing our nation over all these years. We are truly grateful for your kindness and mercy. You rule and reign O Lord, you alone are sovereign.” In Jesus Name, AMEN

Susan, such a beautiful and God-honoring post on this momentous day. May the Lord be with all of us and with those who will be in authority over us in the days ahead. They'll need our prayers like never before. It's funny, but I almost posted this very same hymn today.

beautiful.
Love that hymn.
I was fortunate to hear Obama's acceptance speech as I was just coming in from work and I though he did a marvelous job.
God is in control and the new president will definitely need our prayers! It's a huge job....I sure wouldn't want it!!

To the point! And I could not agree more. The only way a life will change is when his/her heart is changed first. Only Jesus can do that. We should pray to this end for our President.

While I agree that we need to pray for our new President I am having a very hard time accepting the fact that Obama actually is President -- much less pray for him. I can not 'make myself' be open-minded and really understand why people would actually want him as President (and I am NOT talking about his color). Thanks for reminding me God wants and expects me to pray for him.
