Do You Need His Touch Today?

When I read today's quote, my mind went in many different directions. Just reading this first chapter in Mark, we see Jesus touching so many people, and in every case their lives were totally turned around. When Jesus saw the vast needs of humanity, he was moved with great compassion.

I don't know about you, but I am a “touchy-feely” type of person. I will usually greet you with a hug, and I won't let you leave without one either. There is just something about being touched that makes me feel loved, valued, and comforted.

I've read that there have been studies and experiments that show the simple act of touching another person results in slowing the heart rate, dropping blood pressure, and even speeding up recovery from illness. The fact is that touching, in an appropriate and acceptable way, can calm fears, comfort hurts, and convey caring in ways that words can never do alone. Oh what wonders a simple hug can do!

So here in Mark we see Simon's mother–in–law in bed with a fever. I'm sure this was not an ordinary fever, but in fact she was probably very ill. We pick up the story with today’s quote:

Mark 1:31a
”So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up.”

I can just see Jesus stooping down by her bedside and extending his hand toward her.

The hands of Jesus, what wonderful hands they are!

Hands that reached out to people from every walk of life. Hands that touched the untouchable. Hands that that raised the dead. They were hands that fed a throng of hungry people. Hands that reached out to Peter on the stormy sea and lifted him up as he was sinking beneath the raging waves. Hands that were folded in prayer as he cried out to His Father for strength the Garden of Gethsemane.

And now these very same hands reach out across the span of time to touch OUR lives through his Holy Spirit today. My life has been touched and comforted by those nail scared hands on so many occasions. Do you need a touch today? Reach out to Him. His hands are outstretched. Jesus will touch and will help you in your hour of need!

I couldn't resist ending these thoughts today with one of my favorite songs by Nicole C. Mullen, “One Touch”. I trust it will minister to you in a special way.

What loving hands. His compassion is found in His touch. I haven't written yet, but I'm wondering if God is asking me to be his hands? To give His touch to someone who needs it?

Jesus was a hugger... I know it! :o) So many times I have felt His presence and I knew that His arms were tightly wrapped around me. His love is amazing.

I love that song too. Great post!

Isn't it great to know that they stop reaching. The hand that reached out to the mother-in-law that day is the same one reaching out to us if we would only pay attention.

Excellent post and a great reminder of the healing process of just a touch; It reminds me of how infants reaches out for the security of their parent's hand and so we reach out for the healing touch and security of our Father's hand, to know He is there and to feel that security and love He gives to all.

This is such a great reminder that just as Jesus reached out and healed with a touch; Sometimes all it takes is a simple gesture, a hug, a touch on the shoulder to let a person know that they are there, they are seen, they are love and to help they see a loving Father who reaches out a hand and says, "Come to me so I may heal you and love you."

My love language is "touch" too. I wrote something similar about the healing touch of Jesus. I guess great minds think alike (LOL).

I hope you had a GREAT Mom's Day! I spent mine more with my mom than my kids so it was good.

Enjoy your week Susan, I am thinking about ya!!

Love,
Kelley

There is SO much...in the power of a touch. Just as Christ had his hand extended, so he longs for us...the body..the be the hand extended to others.

Great post my friend.

What a great reminder that Jesus wants to hold us as much as we desire to be held. You are such an inspiration!

This is so true - I've heard it said that preemies who are touched as much as possible and held by the nurses thrive better thant those who are left alone in the incubators. That really says something about touch. Thank God for His touch.
