I'm Thankful...no matter what!

“Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.” 1 Thes. 5:16-18

On this Thankful Thursday I want to make a confession. Are you ready?

Well…I haven’t been too thankful these last few days for being a woman. It looks like my change of life is hitting pretty hard, and this is what I look like most days:

Hot/cold, hot/cold, headaches, forgetfulness, moody, tired…well, I think you’re getting the picture.

So, I decided to start doing some research and I found some interesting facts about this time in a woman’s life. After completing an in debt analysis of the data, my conclusion is official – I have all of these symptoms!

SEVEN WAYS TO KNOW IF YOU ARE HAVING - "ESTROGEN ISSUES"

1. Everyone around you has an attitude problem.
2. You're adding chocolate chips to your cheese omelet.
3. The dryer has shrunk every last pair of your jeans.
4. Your husband is suddenly agreeing to everything you say.
5. You're using your cellular phone to dial up every bumper sticker that says "How's my driving?”
6. You're sure that everyone is scheming to drive you crazy.
7. The ibuprofen bottle is empty and you just bought it yesterday.

SEVEN SIGNS THAT YOU MIGHT BE EXPERIENCING MENOPAUSE

1. Hot flashes: You sell your home heating system at the garage sale.
2. Night sweats: Your husband starts to complain about snow piling up on the bed.
3. Mood swings: Your husband jokes that instead of buying more fire wood, he is going to use you to heat the family room this winter. Rather than just saying you are not amused, you throw a log at him.
4. Memory loss: You write post-it notes with your kid's names on them.
5. Incontinence: You change your underwear after every sneeze.
6. Sudden weight gain: You need the Jaws of Life to help you get out of the car after dinner at an Italian restaurant.
7. Hormone deficiency: You take a sudden interest in Wrestlemania and NFL Football.

OK, back to being Thankful. Yes, I really am thankful that God is going to get me through this time in my life. It’s the rest of the family I’m worried about. But no matter how crazy it gets, I can never forget that it was this body that God used to bring forth all five of these handsome young men standing around me.

Now talk about hormones. Can you imagine what I know about testosterone? I could write the book!

Thanks for stopping by today, and if you remember, please whisper a quick prayer for me! Well, I’ve got to go…”Somebody please turn on the air-conditioner...I’m burning up”.

Please join us over at Sting My Heart and see what other grateful hearts are saying today.

Your post is so cute. I'm sorry you are experiencing problems. I went through that time in my life without too much problem. I was hot all the time and never knew what a hot flash was. In winter of 2006/07, I began to feel cold and that is when it was all over. I do hope that things improve for you.

Blessings,
Mary

Oh Sweetie, the FUN is just beginning!!! Just remember, for strong women like us(and I know you are a strong women, having to "handle all those men) they are not hot-flashes, they are POWER SURGES!!! Just use them to your advantage!!!

Hi Susan,
I think, according to your lists, that I have had estrogen issues for a LONG time. Bumper stickers with numbers are WAY too tempting for me. And that is the only symptom that I will admit to for right now!

I hope your "personal summer" is short and that instead, you have "personal springs". Just the right temperature all the time! Thanks for making me laugh this morning.

By the way, you said that you have a sister named Stephanie. Well guess what...my favorite aunt is named Susan. She lives in Texas, so I can get away with calling her Susie Q because she is too far away to do anything about it!!!
Happy TT,
Stephanie

I pray you hold on to Jesus when the heat is on. Maybe He will direct you to someway to relieve your symptoms.

Susan, Praying for you that this will get easier -- and that it will get easier quickly. Bless you for still seeing all you have to be thankful for in spite of how you feel!

I just had this conversation with my mom yesterday. She said the hot flashes are out of control. I can't imagine as I freeze everynight in my basement bedroom-we still have a couple of feet of snow outside. Maybe you need to move up here. :) Blessings and hang in there.

Hilarious Susan! You must really be a testosterone queen. :~D

I'm sorry you're going through such a difficult time with the "change." My mother never spoke of it. Aren't we fortunate to have such openness?

My biological clock says I should be well into menopause by now, but my monthly "friend" keeps appearing. As a teen I considered it a curse, but at this end of things, I consider it a blessing!

I hope your day goes better today.

Hugs,
e-Mom :~D

You know, even though I'm only 32, I could relate to everyone of those things!! I went through them all during both of my pregnancies. It was the only time I wasn't freezing all winter long!!

It's snowing pretty heavily in the Detroit area right now. Maybe you should come up and stand on my deck. It would cool you off in a hurry!!

Thanks for making me smile and reminding me to rejoice in ALL circumstances, even if they are hormone related!!

Humor helps. Doesn't it? I'm sorry that it's so difficult for you. You do have a wonderful family. I bet they'll be understanding. I got a good laugh and now know more about what to expect when it happens to me.

Susan,
I am soooo dreading this stuff! I have enough "mood issues" as it is and with so many female hormones in my family (5 daughters) I am not sure my husband will live through it! Seriously, I checked out a book from the library to see what I should expect and it gave me a lot of insight, probably more than I want to know! I am especially feeling the shrinking jeans lately. Oh well, I am grateful that God gave us one another to get through it!

Take care and chill out (LOL),
Kelley

What a great post! Humor is such a great tool in dealing with a tough, although inevitable, situation. You're right, God will see you through this!

Have a great day, and pass the iced tea!

Gosh Susan...Im on my way..is this what I have to look forward to? YIKES!... is all I can say. I told my husband the other night..that I do not think Menopause, (me) Puberty, (Jordan)and the terrible 2's ( Jonathan) mix very well. I guess I better hang on for the ride.
You sure made me chuckle reading your post. :)

Love ya!
